Starting this past summer, I began having trouble with running and breathing. I've been running for about three years, basically hobby jogging kind of stuff, and have some alergies. So basically I just chalked the summer troubles up to pollen, heat, or humidity. Taking alergy medicine helped.
But the breathing trouble has continued. Today, I went out for an easy seven, settled into a nice rhythm, but after about ten minutes started to feel like I wasn't getting oxygen out of my breath. I felt light headed, and this great desire to gasp, but deep breaths didn't seem to help. I played around with pace, really tried to "run easy", but still felt like my chest was tight and my head was light.
I don't know if this could be just anxiety, continued alergies, or something else entirely. Anyone else ever experience this? The pollen count is really low here today, and I'm inclined to dismiss iron issues, since I really only run about 30-40 miles per week and am male.
But I feel like I've forgotten how to breath....
Oddly, running a bit faster seems to help, almost like it forces me to take more productive, natural breaths.
