Do college aged kids know that phones were actually designed for speaking? Did they ever learn how to speak on a phone.

Get used to it . Same for holidays ,anniversarys , Fathers' days .
You're just a walking / talking fuzzy ATM machine . Stick a card up your ass and money comes spewing out both hands .
My older brother may take a year or two when conversing via email, but if you text him he'll respond much faster.
How old is "college aged"? Why not just say "twenties"?
Most of the college kids I know, if they text instead of call, it's bc they've got the clap or just discovered their gay side and are trying to work up the nerve to tell Mom and Dad.

Have you seen a phone in the last 10 years? Speaking is one of many things they're designed to do. They're more like small PCs that are called phones.
It could be where they are when they text. If they are somewhere where conversation will be disruptive then text is the better way to go.
I used to text when I was drunk or high. Otherwise I was fearful of being caught on cadence and slurring.

My college age daughter and I Skype or Face Time at least weekly. I couldn't go much more than that without hearing her voice or seeing her face. The quality of conversation suffers with texting.

Why? I'm just a regular looking runner dad. Average build, about 160 lbs, 5'11".
Some people are phone phobic or really don't want to bother you.

Because "college aged" isn't "twenties". College aged implies 18-22...some start at 17 and some finish later than 22, but 18-22 is it. A 27-year-old is not "college aged".
