I am not sure how to deal with this, but my roommate has started smoking cigarettes in the house, and it is quite disgusting. I don't smoke (obviously), but it smells disgusting, and I can't deal with it. How do I deal with this?

If you can't deal with it why do you want to know how to?
If you share the fridge with him just urinate in his drinks. If he doesn't get the hint then take a dump in his closet. What's so hard to understand? Grow a pair!
Tell him to stop immediately, and either move out or you move out. In the meantime, no more smoking in the house.
I imagine you didn't agree to have smoking before moving in.
You have the right to breathe, and he doesn't have the right to assault you with the smoke.
Ask him to only smoke in his room.
Whose house it is? Are you both renting? Whose name is on the lease? Is there any provisions in lease about indoor smoking?

Is murder an option? Do you have a way to get rid of the body? Potential roommates to replace him if he is "gone"?
Seriously though, I would probably physically attack a roommate who refused to stop smoking, and I have never been in a fight in my life.

Idiot, that is not a remotely acceptable compromise. Ask him to smoke 10 miles away or get murdered. Or just murder him.
You have to confront and give him an ultimatum. If you let it go, it will embolden him and he'll think he can get away with it and probably with walking all over you in general.
Throw away all his cigarettes.

Problem 1.
You are an adult, and don't know how to handle a situation with a roommate?
Problem 2.
Possibilities:
If you are a roommate, but not tied to the lease, look for another place to live. Let him know and see you leave.
Solution 1.
If you are part of the lease and are tied to the lease, go to the landlord and ask for support on this. There will possibly be a rule about smoking. Let him come over and smell it, and confront your roommate and give him an ultimatum.
Solution 2.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
