I see a lot of users talking about how fast they do their long runs. I'm 17, junior in high school, PR for the 5k is 16:46. I do roughly 50 miles a week, and a 12 mile long run. Typically, my long runs are between 7:30-7:45 pace. However, last year during track I'd do a 10 mile long run usually at 6:30 pace (sometimes even faster than that) simply because I was capable of it. Is there any benefit to running my long runs faster? If I start running them with more effort can I expect to see my 5k time drop more rapidly?
