Shouldn't Verzbicas be competing in events like this to score points for the Oly selection. Is he done?
he's got to be both happy to be in the mix and disappointed with that. Some of the B guys beat him. Did he have a technical issue?
I was going to congratulate him on beating shoemaker but he flatted out under closer inspection.

I'm fairly sure Verzbicas has enough spine problems that he won't be able to compete on the same level he did ever again.
Not because he's said so in any interviews and such, but because common sense will lead you to that conclusion. We frequently see professional track athletes' unable to continue their careers after a wide variety of leg injuries (hamstring, tendons, etc.). Solinsky is one of the best and most recent examples of this.
Verzbicas on the other hand, effectively lost nerve connection with the entire lower half of his body for some time. I'm definitely rooting for him, but an injury like that does FAR more damage than the leg injuries that frequently end running careers. It'd be more than a miracle if he ever manages to race at the same level again.
I give Web a lot of credit for jumping into this new sport. And doing well. However I can't imagine that he believes that he has a legitimate shot at making the 2016 Olympics. It is just way too competitive and there are way to many young guns and up and comers.
He did better on the qualifying here. I think that this might have been a step up in competition for him, where previously he was competing mostly against lower level athletes. He was about 2 minutes back but he's probably still making progress. It would be good to hear a race report and to see how his training is going. He is still very new to this.
