Oscar goes home DEVASTATED.
he got lucky
And the judge is letting the murdering a**hole remain free on bail until sentencing, which gives me a sickening feeling that the sentence is going to be minimal. Maybe he'll do the decent thing and kill himself, but he hasn't so far and I don't see it happening now.

He's already been free for the entire time, no?

Yes, he has. But now he's been convicted of a crime, which wasn't the case before. Anyway, I'll say again - I'm rooting for the long shot possibility that he takes advantage of his freedom to kill himself. He's proven on numerous occasions that he's a danger to the people around him. If he does walk, I REALLY hope he's never able to obtain a visa to visit the US.

seems not. from the NY Times:
"Judge Thokozile Matilda Masipa agreed to extend Mr. Pistorius’s bail until his sentencing hearing begins, on Oct. 13. She said she believed the defense’s explanation that Mr. Pistorius had sold his property to pay his legal fees and dismissed suggestions that he would try to flee the country."
Fuller explanation from the Times article:
"After the verdict, Mr. Pistorius’s lawyer, Barry Roux, asked for Mr. Pistorius to remain free on bail, as he has been for most of the 18 months since the killing, living in the luxurious home of a wealthy uncle, Arnold Pistorius. “I think it is premature to think of a likely sentence in this case,” Mr. Roux said. “There is no reason not to allow him out on bail.”
"Mr. Nel, the prosecutor, disagreed and called for the athlete to be taken into custody following his conviction. “This is a very serious case that makes a lengthy sentence possible,” Mr. Nel said, alluding to a potential risk of suicide. “I do not think it is in the interests of justice” for him to be released on bail, the prosecutor said."
"When the court adjourned to allow Judge Masipa to deliberate on whether Mr. Pistorius should be granted bail, bailiffs led him to a holding cell. As the court resumed, however, Judge Masipa said she had not been persuaded by the prosecution’s arguments against bail."
So, again, Oscar, do the right thing - kill yourself.
"that he takes advantage of his freedom to kill himself."
"So, again, Oscar, do the right thing - kill yourself."
-anyone that perseverates and obsesses about encouraging someone to kill themselves is sick. seriously. get some help, dude. you don't even know the guy.

fair enough + this comment was rattling around in my head while I was struggling through a somewhat dismal run this afternoon.
So...upon further review:
My comments do reflect my actual feelings, but in an overstated way, which means, I fear, I WAS TROLLING [gasp? sigh?]
I will now put my beliefs in a more sensible [and non-trolling] form.
No, I do not know Oscar Pistorius, but I have read enough about him to hold the following beliefs:
-He has a serious drinking problem;
-He's a violent drunk;
-He has a fondness for shooting powerful weapons;
-He has a fondness for driving powerful vehicles at high rates of speed.
Those four things taken together make him very dangerous to anyone who comes near him and I REALLY don't want him to come anywhere near me or anyone I care about.
Because I hold these beliefs, I would be relieved to learn of his death. So long as he remains alive, I believe he should be incarcerated.
Was just reminded of Oscar's charming behavior at the 2012 Paralympics - see
. Seems he's violent when not drunk as well.
That intruder story is such nonsense. He had a house guest, there were no signs of a break in [because of course there WAS no break in] but he immediately assumed anyone in his bathroom was an intruder? Please.
The overwhelmingly more likely explanation for what happened is that he and Reeva had a fight, she locked herself in the bathroom, he flew into a rage and started firing through the door. Did he mean to kill her? Who knows, but my best guess is that he was in the same kind of mindless rage he was in at the Paralympics and didn't have much of any clear intention.
It a good thing he didn't have a gun after his loss in the 200 !
I can't believe that the "Judge" believed that intruder story, when there was a witness that testified that heard a women screaming, just moments before they heard the gun shots !
What that clueless judge did is criminal. So all the witnesses and neighbors who talked about the yelling in the house earlier got it wrong? And Pistorius never herd Reeva screaming as he shot thru the door? He never searched for her in bed when he "heard a noise"?
The double standards in this case are sickening. SA has one of the world leading murder rates. If a black person had done the same crime in the same circumstances he would be sentenced to death and NOT been granted bail. Yet a privileged white athlete in a gated community can claim to have lived in fear and killed someone. Amazing.

I agree with this in spirit but disagree on a detail or two.
-I don't believe S Africa has the death penalty, so that wouldn't have been an option no matter who the perp might have been;
-I find it weird that a black female judge seems to have such sympathy for a wealthy white celebrity defendant.
I suspect that part of the judge's sympathy for the defendant may result from impatience with the prosecutor. I never thought the prosecution had a chance of proving premeditated murder, but they wasted a lot of court time trying. Even "regular" murder was going to be very challenging.
In fact, I believe Oscar has been convicted on the correct charge. What has me upset is that the judge seems to be buying Oscar's intruder story and that she's let him remain free on bail prior to sentencing [which I fear means she isn't planning to sentence him to much if any jail time.]
To be clear,I don't believe Oscar's intruder story for a minute, but I also don't see any way to prove he intended to kill Reeva when he started shooting through the door. In fact, I don't believe he was thinking very clearly and that he didn't have any real plan - that he was simply acting out of blind rage. That makes him a bad, dangerous person in my book but it also makes him guilty of culpable homicide rather than murder.
Tough call.
Is Oscar Pistorius a potential dangerous offender or was he convinced at that time he did have an intruder in his place and was acting out of fright?
What a clusterpissup of an event, such a beautiful woman blown away due to whatever the hell happened or whatever the hell Pistorius intended to do!
I wonder how much cash it took to roll this judge?
Checklist for next OP girlfriend:
1. Install flashing lights and alarm that goes off when she gets out of the bed
2. Install intercom in bathroom to allow communication with the person behind the locked bathroom door
3. Install neon sign - "Oscar I am inside - not an intruder"
4. Put in a bulletproof bathroom door
5. Empty his gun and hide the ammunition
6. Disable the gun so it won't fire
7. Put on Kevlar body armor when going to the bathroom
