Yes, but given the time involved, it's probably only possible to sustain for about 300-400 meters, rather than the 800 in running.

This is spot on and has dire consequences for a race walker. Basically, once you transition to Pure Hate both feet are coming off the ground and the RW is getting a DQ.

Also what the other guy said about self-loathing being a prerequisite for internationally elite race walking is spot on. But self-loathing is not Pure Hate, that is something only found in homicidal psychopaths and middle distance runners.
The judges actually carry a warning paddle for Pure Hate in addition to loss of contact and leg straightening
