Long story short...
Ran Gold Coast marathon last July, and then found out I had two stress fractures in my tibia - one appeared worse than the other, which could have also been the result of knocking my leg on something.
Ended up taking several months off running, and got back into it at the beginning of the year. I had another MRI in February to check if everything was ok before I ramped up the mileage and it turned out I had a stress reaction on my tibia in a different location. I then took another 2 months off.
I started back running again in April - I'd say I was 99% pain free, but could sometimes feel something, but I have heard this is quite normal. I slowly built up my kms, and I am now planning to run Melbourne Marathon in October. My mileage has progressively increased from around 55-90kms per week in the last 8 weeks or so.
I am probably running better than I ever have, and don't have pain when I run, but I can still see a very faint scar from the more severe fracture that I had and if I press on it, it hurts. There seems to be a very faint bruise as well. It does not appear inflamed, and I can hop on it without any pain. I am becoming very paranoid, but am not wanting to make a trip to the doctor, since I have been messed around before and I think I will be told to have another MRI, which I don't want to do right now, and of course I do not want my hard training to go to waste.
I would like to know whether anyone else has had a similar experience, and if so, what the outcome was. Thanks!
