Am I just a pleb? A wannabe runner that can just rack up huge milage.? Would you even call me a runner?
What the hell is wrong with me.

The point of doing high mileage is that it lays the foundation to support quality work that is specific to your target event. Are you doing that work?
Are you overweight?
Are you anemic?
Age?
Lot's of potential factors. And yes, I'd call you a runner. Talent isn't a choice, in any case. Running is.
are you doing workouts? and if so what do they look like? do you have a coach or any set training plan or just doing what you feel like? running 100 miles a week is great if your goal is to run a lot but not the only piece of the puzzle if you want to run fast. your body will adapt and get most efficient to what you do. so if that's slow mileage your body will get better at slow mileage. gotta train fast to run fast!
John, you are a runner, because you are running already. But whatever your goals are (obviously 5k-races?), there´s absolutely no need for hitting 100mi. Such a volume is overrated/window dressing.
It is possible that you simply aren't blessed with the talent to go any lower. LetsRun is chock-full of guys who are blessed with talent, and it's easy to forget that they represent a small section of the bell curve of humanity.
Personally, I have never gone under 21 minutes in a 5k. Why? I have no talent at all. I'm just an enthusiast who wants to do his best.
That's why the PR is so huge in running. Your biggest focus is supposed to be doing YOUR best. Just my two cents.
(FYI, anyone who doesn't believe that I'm giving it my all in 'training' and races, I invite you to run with me and listen to my breathing. You'd be saying, "Damn, dude, do I need to keep an ambulance ready?" lol)

this. Honestly though, if you're doing 100 mpw and can't break 18:30, I guarantee it's just wrong training that's screwing your potential.
Put it this way, if all your runs are averaging a 8:00 - 9:00 pace, why would you expect to break 18:30?
28years old been running for 12years 130lbs 5 ft 10 2% body fat. Perfect build.
Tuesday thursday do 50min farklets of 90% efforts min on min off. Or 10mile tempos at 4min k pace.
PRs
21km 1.23
3km 10.32
1km 2.52

I have done 18:08 but i could run a 1:23 half or 'tempo' a 10 miler at 6:26 pace
Not sure what to say.... wow. Some of us got handed the worst end of the genetic spectrum.
Run longer races like marathons or even ultramarathons... you can handle the mileage so those seem like the ideal races.
The ability to do 100 mpw is no joke, no matter what anyone on Letsrun would tell you. Only a few runners, let alone most people, can survive off such high mileage.
0/10
It seemed like you were trolling from your first post, but 2% body fat, 2:52 for 1km and 10:32 for 3km, but not under 18:30 for 5km..
I like the 16km tempo training run at 4min/km pace but 5km at 3:42 pace is beyond you... joker.
im no joker or a troll.
that 10,32 was flatout. when i was in top speed form. also with the 2.52km was back when i was 20.
and 2% body fat?

I don't know if he is a troll but that isn't a reference for runners.
100 miles a week is a great base but you don't need to run that much for a 5k. Now you need speed work. Reduce you mileage to say 50-70 miles a week and add VO2 max training of 5 miles at 5:54 per quarter one day, 3 miles of quarter repeats at 5:25 another day and an LT run of 8 miles at 6:23 pace another day, the rest of your running should be at about 7:40 pace.
from MyRunCoach app
If you want to run faster at the 5k, you should be doing a lot more work at 5k-10k pace. Your training, based on that sample, looks like it's geared to the half marathon.
I'd add that it's not unbelievable that someone would run 100 mpw and not break 18:30. No one would be shocked if a woman did that.
Do some type of speed every day (may be something as simple as 8 * 15 seconds on the 1:00 during a run). One day of dedicated interval work - get used to running faster. Build up to 20*200 with a 200 jog -run them at mile pace. At 100 miles a week, everything else should fall into place.

Stick to the 1km
If I do 10x100m twice a week at 95%? After a run good? I hate doing reps. I hate stopping and starting.
No one cares what you hate. Do you want to be good at the 5k or not?
