Why is my training so inconsistent?

I'm a high schooler coming out of base that built from 34-50 an this is my 3rd consecutive week being at 50 before I'm going to drop to 45-40 to ra race more comfortable. That is my background but you would think more endurance would be getting better but it doesn't feel like it at all. Some days I can go and hit 6:5X's (in the middle of my run NOT AVERAGE) with the same effort as a day like today where I struggled to keep 7:50 average. Maybe I'm not a morning runner or maybe it's my diet that consist of spaghetti, pizza, and cola this summer as my most eaten foods.

Oh yeh and for the instance of this run that I struggled on I even took a day off before to get a rest from a 12 mile long run that I felt terrible on.

if your body needs a rest day, it will make you take a rest day. Make sure you're sleeping enough, hydrated enough, warming up properly, and recovering properly after a run.

1. Do yourself a favor...stop drinking soda and stop eating a lot of sweets. Soda is hard on your system and depletes you oxygen in the blood.

2. You are running too fast too often and your body is not ready for it. Get on a training program that works with your current VO2 Max and be willing to build that over time.

3. You will learn in time that you cannot... I repeat CANNOT out-train a bad diet. If you want better performance, get a good diet going and check your current iron levels to make sur they are right for your level of activity. Other wise, you will be weaker and more injury prone.

No, soda is fine. I am a 2:30 marathoner and drink soda after every hard run. OP, keep drinking it if you enjoy it. Just train hard, it won't affect you. Your body runs on sugar

You are in HS now, it is time you learned moderation.

There is nothing wrong with soda but it should not be your go to beverage. Drink water.

Some days you will be tired and slower. Don't fight it. Some days it's just harder to run; heat, humidity or strong sunlight etc. Don't fight the conditions either.

Simply put. Pizza, soda and pasta and that's all? Diet has a lot to do with it.

Eat right, cut out the soda. Less carbs. Your not running enough mileage to be OD'ing on pasta all the time. Sounds like there is no red meat in your diet, which would help as well.

Is it hot when you run?

Why did you struggle to average 7:50?

If you don't feel good, run slower, don't try harder.
