This probably doesn't sound interesting at first glance, but let me give you some back story. I just started my freshman year of college xc and obviously my training has picked up hard. My previous 5k pr was 17:56 that I got in one of the first meets in my senior high school cross country meets. I ended up getting a stress fracture in my lower tibia and had to miss the rest of the season. I had a pretty average track season. Took two seconds off my mile for 4:51 but I got slower in everything else. Once I decided on a college, summer training started and I still hadn't ran a 5k in nine months. At the very end of the summer I ran one road race and got 18:43 which is pretty much where I figured I would be. So that brings us to the beginning of this season. I started training a lot harder but I didn't think it would make much of a difference. So this morning we had a 5k time trial just so kind of see where everyone on the team is. We were basically flying the whole time. I went through 1 mile in 5:16 which is a solid 15-30 seconds faster than I'm used to. When I crossed the finish line I was at 16:59. I honestly was pretty skeptical of the length of the course until I got home and traced it out on Google maps.
So pretty much I just dropped a 57 second 5k pr out of thin air. Sorry if I'm clogging up this board but I'm just really happy right now haha. It's the first race I've been really satisfied with in almost a year.
