I don't think it will go. Maybe Rudisha could beat in top form but he hasn't got it in him this year. Souleiman would have a good go at it but I still don't see it been beaten.

Not a chance. Rudisha said he is done for the season. Aman ran a 1000 earlier this season and completely failed. Kitum has not looked too great as of late. That leaves Amos and bosse. Amos won't push the pace and Bosse would be hesitant to do so after Euros I would think. Is anyone even in this race anyways?
I think even a 100% Rudisha would have trouble breaking this record, unless he's got 3:31 1500 ability, which I doubt.
Amos is a 400/800 type, so won't hold it for 1000m.
I think the 1000m WR is very underrated. It basically requires someone going through 800 in 1:44 something and then running a further 200 in 27 flat. I don't believe it's possible to break going through in 1:46 and then speeding up in the last 200 in sub 26.
Winner probably runs 2:13/2:14

Agreed! Very underrated record, broken by probably the most underrated middle distance runner ever.

Agree with poster, but I think Ngeny is not revered more due to his career projection and the era in which he ran. If EL G was on EPO, which I tend to think is highly likely, then Ngeny probably was too. His case not helped by being dropped from the Kenyan Worlds team just prior to Champs in 2001 and the fact he had a car accident which allowed him to run 3:32 but not any faster!?
I tend to look at him as the most obvious doper along with Komen of that era.
No chance for a WR in the 1000m. The only athlete at the moment who seems to be capable of this WR is Asbel Kiprop. Rudisha? No way, even 800m might be little bit too long for him. He wil never get a really great result in a distance longer than 800m, but in top shape I think he should get the 600m mark. Amos? Also more the 400/800 type - again, no chance over 1000m. Souleiman? Don't know enough about him. Maybe in the futere, but not at the moment. The 1k record isn't that bad, really.
Kiprop should have a shot for the record during his career, but probably not at the moment (he isn't in the 1k race at all?).
The race will be won in 2:14 low, at best.
Amos doesn't really run long stuff that well (his 3k is 8:33) and he's obviously not going to push the pace. bosse has hit peak speed this year and is currently running pretty slow. Kitum has sucked for two races (1:48 last place and 1:45 10th) aman is losing a lot this year and has never moved up from 500m to 600m like he was last year, so he's probably going to be out of contention going into the last 100m again, rely on sheer speed, and fail. My verdict: 2:13.9
Rudisha does not exactly die at 799m when he is in world record shape, taking the lead the entire way in something like 49.5/51.4, but he cannot run a great 1k now when he lacks his base.
