People with at least $3 million in savings are already set for life and can live comfortably - they won't be bothered by it at all unless they are dangerously greedy. Use this money to improve infrastructure in poor areas.

We need a salary cap for life.
That's a stupid idea.

I agree. Welcome to the Republican Party.
No thanks. I'll stay with the rational thinkers.
Who has $3m in savings? It's usually invested. Are you suggesting we reduce the available investment capital by25%? And that would be good thing?

The rational thinker would be able to see both sides, which liberals like you and the person who posted this thread can not. Capitalism is the best social system in the world. Always has been. The "American Dream" is centered around the idea that hard work, ingenuity and intelligence are rewarded, while laziness, lack of imagination, and stupidity are not. Put yourself in the place of someone who invents something everyone wants, or who works his or her ass off for years while being financially wise, or who carefully invests money while others waste theirs. Why should such people have to reach a plateau where they owe anything to you? I'm not rich, but I don't begrudge the rich what they've earned. Almost every job I ever had was provided by someone, or a group of someones, who worked hard, risked much, and made it big. Now, do I think that very rich people should be charitable and care about others? Of course. But should their earnings be stolen by politicians who give it to those whose votes they can buy? Hell no.

This is utter nonsense and you know it.
In any case, your utopian society has nothing to do with the real world. Wealthy people depend on the government for protection from both the poor and from other wealthy people. Government doesn't steal from them, it prevents others from stealing from them. Without this compact with the government they would be eaten alive.
A system like that is an unnatural state, and it becomes more unnatural the richer people get. History has proven repeatedly that when this is taken to extremes, the government fails to protect the rich and they end up getting killed off. The United States is approaching this level of extremity, so it is for the rich people's own good that their wealth should be limited.
Kiss off you good-for-nothing socialist!

Yes folks, liberals are this stupid!
"Government doesn't steal from the rich, but poor people would, so we need the government to protect the rich from the poor. In exchange for this service, the government is going to force rich people to give them money [taxes, stealing]."
So the government must steal from rich people so that the poor don't.
Makes a lot of sense.
Why is the American dream "utter nonsense"? It's what made the United States the richest, most powerful nation the world has ever seen. Let me get this straight. You're saying that the more we spread the wealth around the better it is for everyone, right, Barack? Tell me where socialism, which eventually leads to communism, has actually worked. Soviet Russia? Cuba? China? North Korea? What happens when you steal from the rich--and even the so-called "upper middle class"--as is increasingly the case here in the U.S. The rich move their money and themselves out of the country, often taking their companies and jobs to more favorable places. I'm sure you would like to enslave them here and command them to continue paying the highest corporate tax in the developed world, but what would you do if you were in their shoes? Oh, and the rich can live wherever they want. When things get too hot, they can pay for all the security money can buy, or they can just move somewhere else, again taking their companies, their jobs, and their money out of the socialist pig sty. The people who are really screwed in YOUR socialist utopia are those who are on the edge of wealthy or who aspire to become wealthy. Their motivation is destroyed. Why work hard when you can get free handouts stolen from those who do? You obviously don't make a decent living, or you would be able to see things more clearly. Just when you start making it, the government says you don't need what you've earned and they give it to those who will vote to steal it.
Dangerously greedy? You're a tool!!why 3 Mil?? Why not 1 Mil, or 200K, or better yet anyone with any savings should have to relinquish it and have it redistributed. Do you get it yet?? Your number is arbitrary based on YOUR silly benchmark. If no one could save and we all had to live on a pre determined number of dollars, the drive to excel would disappear and there would be no one willing to work hard and, by default, create jobs for your sorry butt!! My God!!! What the heck has happened to this country that we have a population of ignoramuses?!?!?!?

Both of you get it. What I find so ironic is that there are actually people on a RUNNING forum who think like these liberals. Running gives back what you put into it. If you work hard, you are rewarded. If you work hard and are talented, you find competitive success. Good thing that running can't be controlled by liberals. If it were controlled by liberals, the faster you ran, the more rocks they would make you carry just to make things "fair." Human nature aspires to be better than we are. Human nature is competitive. Human nature wants to be rewarded for hard work and sweat. What holds true for running holds true in the rest of life. Let people strive for greatness. Let them be individuals. It makes perfect sense that if you take the motivation away, people would just sit on their asses. Or we would all just be "fun runners." Libs are so full of sh!t, and they don't even know it.
Harrison Bergeron.
It's here. We're all winners. Everyone gets a medal. Keeping score is mean.
What part of "That's a stupid idea" did you not understand?

And yet arguably the sport most associated with wealthy conservatives - golf - has a handicap system to make it more "fair" when a hacker competes against a talented player who works hard on his game. Go figure.
Why stop there? Why not take 50%? They won't be able to spend it all.
Why not 100%? We can play at communism for a few decades and then fall apart into anarchy!
