So I've been reading a lot of threads where malmo has given advice about doubles in high school to improve. But my coach and seniors on my xc team warn me that any higher mileage will injur me. I've been at 35-40 for the past couple months and about 30-35 in the summer. We've had one meet and I ran 18:14 on a hard course with 4 big hills. I want to improve and from what I've heard I should get up early 3-4 days a week and do an easy couple miles before my actual run after school at practice. People are saying that this will really help me improve my time, but I really don't want to get injured. My schedule is long progressive run, 2 tempos (15 and 20 or 25 minutes each) three easy run of 45 minutes and off on Sunday. I know my time will improve when we start doing intervals and hill workouts but not by much. If adding a couple extra runs at a slow pace will help me improve? Should I start out with just 1-2 doubles a week? Is it worth it? Thanks in advance for any advice and serious answers. I'm a junior btw.
