So everyone was criticizing Roger Goodell before for having too soft a suspension on Ray Rice. Now that he has adjusted it, some are begrudgingly giving him credit while others are still criticizing him for not having done the harsher suspension in the first place.
My question is this - why is it Goddell's responsibility to make up for the softness of the criminal justice system? Instead of TV analysts and talk show callers poking at Goddell's response and whether it was sufficient, why are they not instead focusing on the New Jersey Attorney General or Prosecutor's office or whoever has the jurisdiction to prosecute Rice for his crime and apparently chose not to do so even though there is video evidence of his crime. Instead the public seems to want to focus on a football commissioner and expect him to levy a correct penalty when the applicable state chose not to even pursue it. And nobody is criticizing New Jersey and its prosecutor's office for that. If they did their job, Rice would be in prison (or jail awaiting trial) and Goodell wouldn't have a say (which he shouldn't have to have). Talk about the public focusing on the wrong thing.
