Brad Herbster is going to completely ruin Texas men's and women's xc
Have a strong feeling he'll burn major bridges and run that program into the ground pretty quickly. I wish him the best, but knowing him from his days in NC, he likely won't last at a program that big.
That's a bit of a stretch. He didn't take any direct shots at the coaches. All he said was that Raines wasn't recruited by Texas (which may or may not be true). The article points out that Texas has little to no money for XC and I'm pretty sure Arkansas offered her a full ride.
Herbster said absolutely nothing pertaining to the men's side so I'm not sure why the writer says that Herbster was blasting Hayes
Don't make it sound like Arkansas threw a ton of money at her in desperation like they're a second rate program. They're a top team in the SEC and NCAA every year.. A well rounded team at that.. top contenders in the 4x4 every single year. 4 vaulters at NCAAs 400m finalists 2 sttplers in the top 10 top 1500m runner.. 5000m all american too..
Wish, your friendship and closeness to Sisson is making you too sensitive. Lighten up
I heard him speak at a clinic this year and he had a lot of criticism of Sisson but seemed to imply that he and Hayes did things very much alike.

-pffffft...they're no powerhouse as it stands anyway. give me a break.
Wishes point was that it's not appropriate to rag on previous coaches doesn't matter if they were bad or good.
Texas? Wish's article is a response to an article in the Austin American Statesman. Maybe read that one first and you will understand what is going on...you seem to have 1/2 the story...wait this is Let's Run...
Craig Lutz and Ryan Dohner are UT
Oh come on! Hall may have been recruited by steve but give me a break. Women's teams have not been on fire for some time now on the distance side at Texas. Mario just had to clean house on the women's distance side just so that the program could be more serious. Other than Hall and a few other individuals, Herbster was working with a very poor group of girls. And just as a post stated earlier, at no point was Hayes brought into that article. Herbster took over the program and is doing a fine job. He loves Texas, the opportunity, and the future of the program. The man needs time and with that will come consistency. Should they have fired Hayes for him? Maybe not, but Steve was certainly no hero.
When Sisson took over the women's distance team it was 12th in the big 12 and after his first season where he was 10th it was either 1,2, or 3 in the conference. He had at most 2 full rides to work with during the 7 years that he was at Texas. He did an amazing job of recruiting and developing athletes he got mostly for free or books. With mostly walk on athletes he had individuals or teams that went to NCAAs every year his was coaching. The women's team might not of "been" there on the distance side but when you head coach has 16 scholarships and your are a sprint school you do the best you can with what you are given.
There is a big reason why Marielle did not preform well until she did and it had a lot to do with her team situation than it did with the coaching from either Sisson or Herbster.
I don't doubt that Herbster love Texas and will do a good job as coach and every longhorn hopes he is successful. But point is you don't rag in a local paper about the former coach. You either say nothing at all or you are vaguely positive, that's how Professional approach the situation.
And I certainly don't think anyone is trying to be a hero...not sure I understand that argument. I love to talk off line to Herb and Bevo and let you know the full scoop....

The Herbster never had to work with BEV.
Very true. Not the easiest person to work for!
That "very poor group of girls" was at the national championships every year, and off of little to no distance money. Sisson was able to get some undeveloped girls as well as top Texas talent and turn them into real athletes who could perform on the national stage. All Herbster has been able to do is manage not to screw up Marielle Hall and have a few things fall into his lap. What no one else is talking about is how he had a women's team ranked 15th going into last season barely crack the top 5 in the Big XII and get 4th in the region (and that was by far the best race of the season). He also managed to run what should have been 3 of the top 5 girls into the ground before the season even started. The "cleaning house" that Mario did included girls who were sub-11, sub-5 and under 2:15 out of high school, and while they didn't run out of this world at Texas, they ran well and were very clearly on an upward trajectory. Besides Sandie, who Herbster also had nothing to do with, his "elite" recruits couldn't touch some of the girls that Steve was able to get. Not everything was perfect before he got there, but Herbster probably should refrain from talking badly about Sisson's team because it's pretty obvious that they would wipe the floor with Herbster's team, and they could do it on their worst day.
What a joke. From what I have heard, the Herbster's "clearing house" was handled so poorly that he won't ever be able to recruit SL Carroll or Highland Park again, which sort of hurts a distance coach in Texas. The guy is a stumblebum and two years from now everyone is going to know it.
Sisson and Wish need to stop posting on this thread!
