if you could send a one word message back to your hs self what would it be?
I was a bad heelstriker so I'd say "barefoot." I was considering forefoot but I remember trying that in hs just by pointing my toes down which was stupid. training barefoot finally worked in college (yes now I wear shoes)
This would be a better thread if it was one piece of advice instead of one word.
But my word would probably be "consistency". Hopefully my HS self would be able to figure out that the single word acually means: a) train year-round rather than 3 months out the year; b) real improvement comes over years, not weeks or months; c) with the real improvement in b, you actually can become a "talented" runner (i.e. talent isn't as big of a limiter as I believed in h.s.); d) avoid injury & burnout at all cost. Balls-to-the-wall training isn't effective if it mentally drains you or physically injures you and you need to take extended time off.
