I don't consider myself to have any special talent for long distance running but I like to run and I'm becoming more interested in reaching my full potential as a runner. my current Marathon PR is 3:29. I have run a few marathons in the past but they have all been with a very novice mindset and no training plan. Just making sure I was getting in 30-40 miles a week, no speed work, no structure, just plodding along.
I stopped running for a few years and now am getting back into it. Just started training again about a month ago. I ran a 19:17 5k this weekend which was really surprising to me because I have only been back running for a month and I have never run that fast in the past. I'm wondering what would the potential be for someone like me if I actually got on a plan and stuck to it. I'm open to working up to high mileage and am willing to train 100+ MPW if my body can handle it. what would be my limits for the 5k and marathon? Is a sub 2:50 marathon possible after a year or so of hard training, or is that too ambitious? I'm a 28 y/o male.
