It's a slippery slope with cigarettes, man...I'll tell you from experience. Now bear in mind that I'm listing rather unnoteworthy times but I am in the Army and these times are considered exceptional by any unit standards.
I was running around a 10:30 2 mile for every PT test (on a 400 meter track) and my 5 mile time was like a low 28. Then I deployed in Feb. to a pretty isolated site in AFG where all the team guys smoked and I socially began smoking a cig here and there. The mental lapse in judgment when I justified one here and there turned into me smoking cigarettes to cope with just about every aspect of deployment: boredom, anxiety, mission stress. I ended up coming home with a pretty lousy habit.
Despite sporadic efforts during deployment to stay reasonably fit, I took another PT test after coming home and failed to max the run portion (for the first time since enlisting) and my 5 mile time is roughly 32 minutes. I keep trying to commit to a running routine again but I can't seem to find the traction. And that mental lapse that justifies a few here and there lingers constantly. It's been frustrating all the way around.
Anyway, that's my boo-hoo story. Just be wary of the habit's ability to creep its way into your every day. It does take a physical toll.
YES! It smells like crap and I can smell that crap from 50 yards away.
Think of it as basically the smoker is farting continuously...that is how it stinks for non-smokers.
Plus anyone who chooses to kill themselves much faster, wasting a lot of money and then smell like crap doing it, isn't my thing anyways.
I don't smoke but I love the smell of tobacco.
Absolutely it is. It isn't 1930 anymore. Doctors aren't prescribing smoking. We've known a long time how bad they are for human health, and that's not to mention how disgusting they make everything smell, and how poorly being in their presence makes me feel. I get watery eyes, a burning nose, and a headache if I'm within 10 feet of a smoker. GTFO
I predict 16:55 for your 5k.
Yes it is
Please don't pollute my lungs with your toxic exhaust
I believe it is in most cases. Smokers as a people seem to be socially offensive. Why do they think it is OK to just throw their cig butts on the ground? They stink up every place they go, yes we can smell it on you, and litter every time they smoke.
Some are courteous but overall they are reprehensible people.

It's basically the equivalent of bringing around something that smells exceptionally bad (say, a bag of feces) everywhere you go, regardless of the fact that everyone around you will be forced to smell it.
So yes, it is socially offensive.
I'm in middle school, so I guess I can't comment. But in my opinion, no.
Is not bathing socially offensive?
Do you complain when a fossil fueled vehicle drives by and belches carbon which is just as bad for your lungs as cigarettes. The namby pamby nature of non smokers is pathetic. Unless a smoker pulls a Morton Downey Jr routine in your face who cares.....
yeah
choking smokers don't you think the joker laughs at you? ha ha ha hee hee hee ho ho ho. Lennon, a chain smoker, also cursed Sir Walter Raleigh for bringing tobacco to Engand 'he was such a stupid get!'
Have you notice how smokers carry lit cigarettes in their hand. They always hold the lit end facing out. So they don't want to burn themselves but are quite happy to shove it in your thigh as you walk past
Even outside when you walk behind you always end up breathing in their smoke
Smoking in bars was only banned in UK in 2007 so I spent most of my youth breathing in their crap
What a fantabulous post this has been. Never seen this kind of useful post. I am grateful to you and expect more number of posts like these. Thank you very much.read

This is true. All the complaining about secondhand smoke filling your lungs coming from people who won't think twice about living in an apartment where 20,000 vehicles or more pass by daily.
The other comparable is hair spray. How many chicks sit in the confined space of a bathroom and spray toxic chemicals all around their head at least once a day? But they shudder at the thought of taking a whiff of cigarette smoke.
I don't think cig smoke smells great, it's bad. But put things into perspective a bit.
Ever heard of climate change?
I find gum chewing more offensive than smoking.

Socially offensive to whom, brah?
Europeans smoke like chimneys. I almost felt like I was offending everyone in Italy when I *wasn't* smoking.
Lard butts in the southern states, like Mississippi, probably smoke a bunch while their shoving fried pork skins down their gullet, so I don't think they'd be bothered.
I'm sure in places like Boulder it is probably a social taboo to suck down cigarette smoke.
All depends on context, brah.
