I went for blood work a couple weeks ago. I ran 8 miles about 14 hours before I got the test done. According to the information sheet I got, this would've been OK. It said no exercise 14 hours before the blood work.
The results showed my AST and CK levels were slightly elevated above the normal range. It can mean liver problems, heart problems, or simply that I exercised very recently.
My doctor immediately said I should get an ultrasound of my liver to make sure it was OK. I told him I ran 14 hours before the test, and maybe I should just get the blood work done after 24 hours of rest and see if the levels are OK. An ultrasound is a ridiculous waste of Canadian taxpayers' dollars for this. He agreed. I also told him he should fix his information sheet, so other people don't run into this problem. He said something to the effect that he wasn't going to do anything.
I'm surprised he didn't ask about exercise after seeing the results, that it wasn't a routine question. Do that many people not exercise? Everyone's so overweight and lazy, apparently doctors don't even understand what a fit person's physiology is like. I'm in my mid 20's. A liver problem would be extremely rare, given that I barely drink.
