My school got a new athletic director and she recently purchased brooks reflective vests for the XC team. I am still trying to wrap my head around this because we practice in the broad daylight (2:30), and they make us look very geeky.

Maybe you should be appreciative that the AD is concerned about safety instead of your geekiness. It's recommended safety apparel, and odds are good there's some insurance issue somewhere.
In any case it's going to get darker earlier soon, and unless you're wimpy you are going to run at times when it's not "board daylight".
What school, where?
Do you practice on roads?
OP
I think your AD is very insightful and shows concern. Many AD's dismiss xc. Thank her.
Maybe she also will be requiring daily five hour long workouts that will take you into the darkness soon.

My HS AD didn't allow us to run on the roads at all.
