Can the iPhone replace a measuring wheel yet?
The iPhone has a GPS receiver which relies on triangulation, but it doesn't correct for specific local weather phenomena that can affect the speed of radio signal travel. So it's only regularly accurate to +/- 10 meters or so. There may be apps that allow you to apply the weather-specific correction, in which case you might be able to get to +/- 3 meters.
Is that accurate enough?
According to FIFA regulations, soccer pitches can vary immensely in size from 100-131 yards long and 49-100 yards wide.
They can't be measured accurately using GPS but I guess you could walk slowly recording distance 9 or 10 times and taking the average.
Buy a measuring wheel for $20 from Amazon.

Hotspots and cell towers do not improve accuracy of location. They are sometimes used in lieu of GPS signal to give an approximate location, but it is order of magnitude less accurate than GPS.

Yup. The approximate location provided by Wifi and cellular triangulation can also help cell phones get GPS fixes faster but it does not make them more accurate than GPS at all.
My grandpa has a 3-Dimensional Aviation GPS receiver he takes when flying his ultralight that is far more accurate than consumer grade 2D GPS. I don't know what the cost is though.
The Garmin Fenix 2 has an area calculator. It's pretty cool and that would be about the only useful thing for it.
There are some camera-based measuring apps. I don't know how well they work, though.
Here's one:

I think you should modified apps like Short Distance mod apk or "X VPN Premium APK" etc. These mod apk or modified app is the modified version of the original app . It means that it can measure the distance more accurately as compared to the original app. If you won't understand the concept of modified app then read this article. It might sort out your problem.
ffs get a roll of string a cut 10 meters and presto you can use it to measure a field to within +/- 1 meter
plenty of other ways to do it without relying on electronics like some helpless infant. Humanity is doomed if your entire generation is like this!
