In the Birmingham preview, you say "Ideally, he’ll get out in just under 48 seconds and then hold on with a 24.x last 200."
WHAT?
You seem to want him to come through 400 a full second slower than he wants. You seem to see this as a mid-d event, and you need to think more of a long sprint. It is 72 seconds we are talking about. Each 200 will and SHOULD be markedly slower than the one before.
How would you seen this playing out? Let's look at a 1:12.8 finish with a 47.9 400.
23.5/24.4/24.8 is not how to pace a 600. WAY too even.
But if you have him go out faster, like 23...
23.0/24.9/24.8 ... getting FASTER over the last 200? Ridiculous.
Rudisha himself said we wanted to go 23.0/23.8 and then run for the WR. For 1:12.8 that would go 23.0/23.8/26.0.
I know you guys are more experienced in long distance, but come on!
