To put that time in perspective Brian Sell ran 48:38 at Crim in 04.
To also put it into perspective, Alberto claims that Ritz once run over 4 minutes faster (45:03) in practice.

Look out for Jed. He'll be moving up in the ranks soon enough!
You guys are nuts....hes only 31. He is far from done. Look at Meb.
Always loved Ritz, barely sub 5 pace? Not a good sign, regardless of what some may say.
and Solinsky too
Hall not one of my favorites, never liked that he moved up so quick and has no 10Ks to speak of.
Webb out of the sport, but of all , as much as folks like to trash him, he did get it done at various distances.
1:43.84 to 27.30's
seems like a lot of 31-32s are done
49:12 is terrible for Ritz. That's 2:09 marathon pace for only 10 miles. I'm sure he usually splits faster than 49:12 pace for *20* miles.
Possible Reply: "Ritz hasn't trained much."
My response: "That'd be a reason for the terrible time."
Possible Reply: "Ritz will be fine in a few weeks."
My Response: "Then he'll run terrible now & better in a few weeks."

My only hope is this was nothing more than a tempo, in which he had NO INTENTION of running faster than 49 mins.
Yep, if Ritz were anywhere near his top form, he'd win this race.
he's only 31.....high mileage in high school and college. I'd put him at 36 (in runner years)

Key word was "claims". Not saying it is or isn't true, but definitely saying that it's not official.

No one said it was official.

Fine but he has had enough performances to make it believable.
He ran 1:00:00 in the HM and I am sure there was some tactical issues in the race. This is 4:34 pace which would put him in the 45-46 min range for 10 miles. I am pretty sure under ideal time trialing conditions he could run that fast. As stated before, anyone who thinks this is a bad time, CRIM is not an easy course, it is his first race of the season, and he is not in peak fitness. Lets see how his second race compares. I am sure he might go through 10m faster in a HM in 3-4 weeks.
I can only imagine how Frank Shorter and his up and down times before trying to peak would be criticized. I think people need to lighten up a bit. Farah skips Commonwealths and 'He is done'...yet nearly 4 weeks later runs a 8:07. People never cease to show their ignorance I suppose.
The half marathon time and pace was already brought up, way to act like you're a know-it-all and explaining it for the first time. The equivalent for 10 was already pointed out as well.
The Crim 10 mile is not a difficult course. If my memory serves me, it has seen at least one open world record.
Ritz is DONE. I think his move back to Michigan is a sign he's given up.

Of course he disagrees. What do you expect him to say? "We'll it's over for me, I think I'm just gonna stick to coaching full time." Athletes are always going to give themselves the benefit of the doubt to increase the hope that they aren't done (look at the twitter feed and recent interviews with Chris Solinsky). But sorry to say folks, he's DONE.

MikeM pretty much nailed it. And, he said it was "not an EASY course".
Dathan, however, used stronger words: "At Flint, Ritzenhein was surprised by the number of hills on the course, which he described as “very hard.” "
I am very familiar with the Crim course, and I think you have had one too many beers if you are claiming it's not difficult. Or, you're just that tough.... in which case - what's your PR at Crim?
