Has anyone else seen what will be added in 2015? I am simply shocked this is not getting more airtime.
But in 2015, item 1.1.1A will be added to the Bylaws and it states: The maximum lateral inclination permitted for the track across the full width of the track, preferably toward the inside lane and across all runways, shall should not exceed 1:100, one percent (1%).
The implications this will have will result in major challenges and lead to confusion, generally.
How will this impact drainage issues?
If the track is in inclined or slanted, will the water puddles stay?
Will coaches have to adjust the high jump and Javelin runways?
Will administrators have to record the high jump and Javelin runways as inclined and not inclined?
Will records be recorded like wind aided:
- Inclined
- not inclined
This is not a game changer. Track are, largely, already constructed to this standard. This is the IAAF rule and the NCAA codifying it is another step at bringing the two sets of rules into agreement, just like when they adopted the 1m vertical obstruction free zones, etc.

Yeah, I'm not seeing how this is an issue. Tracks are already built flat.
All standard college tracks created in the last 20-30 years have the 1% max. High school track has 1% to max of 3%. This rule, as stated, is just more clear.
