I have a marathon 10 weeks out. Last Saturday after an easy run I felt a weird pain below my calf. Went out for my Sunday run regardless and the pain got a bit worse. I took Mon/Tues off then ran on Wednesday. No pain, but there is discomfort. I won't make an appointment with a doctor until Monday, but Google says it could be Achilles Tendonitis. I'm resting today (Thurs) and possibly tomorrow, depending on the answers here I may take the rest of the week off.
I'm not a fast runner, I was hoping for a 4 hour marathon. My 5k pr is 21:00. I've been running for 3 years, have averaged 50mpw these last 4 weeks and before that I was hovering between 20/40, usually right in the middle at 30mpw.
If all goes well, my plan is to run a 40mpw next week with no intense sessions and then jump back in the following week with my speed and tempo workouts. I'm wondering how badly this time off can hurt my fitness. Should I play it safe and rest until Sunday/Monday or give it a go sooner to see how it feels?
