WHAT A CRACKING RACE BY SIMPSON!!!
If Simpson can break Slaney's AR is she the greatest female American middle distance runner of all time?
That was Jenny's most impressive race. The last lap was slow because Genze ran out of gas and Hassan was pushed too hard by Genze's fast early pace. Jenny just waited and pounced beautifully.

Overall this was the WORST diamond league meet of the year.
Stockholm is very often one of the weakest big meets each season in Europe.
4:07 for Brenda Martinez and Aregawi both seem to have lost their mojo this year.
Cold and rainy. Terrible for the field events. Best runners were definitely not on their game today (Except for Jenny - for her it's mind over matter I guess).

Martinez was in great shape, but it never materialized. She over-raced early in Europe and is really down right now. Seems she lost her strength that she had early in the year.
How can there be any doubt. She is such a smart racer and is really not afraid to go for the win. Always love to watch her race.

He had one bad race - relax.
M5000m was faster than all but one race in the last two years.
The fields in the M800m and W1500m were strong but many top runners did not run fast.
I would not blame those slow performances on the weather. If Manzano can run a 1:46 800m, the conditions aren't that bad.
I. was there. The wind was not "iisignifikant"malmo wrote:

Give up while you're behind. The flags are up high. The track is way down low, in a stadium that is completely enclosed and close to the track. Any wind in that stadium is insignificant.

The weather was fine for 5000m but colder than ideal for everything else.
I won't talk about the sprints, but as far as the 800m-3000m go, the weather is not the primary explanation for disappointing times.
I pointed to Manzano running 1:46, which is as fast as he ran in July and the most you would expect from him given that this is a tune up for his target race on Sunday. And he's not exactly a cold weather specialist.
There's more going on when the supposed top guys in 800 are 4-5 seconds off their PBs. Same for other mid-d and distances performances that don't correspond to expectations.

Say what you will about his true potential, but his 5000 meter performances are always right around 13:00-13:05. He's the picture of consistency.

I can't wait for her to get drug cheat Slaney out of the books. I fkn can't stand that witch. Jenny, on the other hand, is such a class act, always easy to pull for her.

Then why didn't the cold affect everyone equally? Novlene Williams-Mills and Nesta Carter ran SB's. Ruuskanen threw 87+.

Both weak times, and the javelin guys were throwing with the wind.

then why was Ruuskanen the only one over 86 meters? Why did Vesely drop out having failed to throw 77?

Did you watch the meet? There were 4-5 guys around 85m. Vesely and Pitkamaki seem to be wild cards these days. Russkanen is on point right now, hence being the Euro Champ.
