Ritzenhein is set to run the Bobby Crim 10 miler this Saturday morning in Flint. Been waiting a long time for this and can't wait to see what he can do over 10 miles versus the Kenyans who have dominated for quite some time.

We will not be beat, neeeeevvvvvveeeerrrrrrr!
He texted me earlier and said he was hoping to break 52 mins.
That's funny because I got a text from him stating that his goal was sub 50:00
You guys he posted on my google+ and said he's aiming for 65 minutes because his testicles are swollen to the size of papayas

I know that's a lie because I skyped with him this evening and his testicles were both their normal size.
If he was able to run 47:30 right now then he would be entered in a Fall Marathon. The reason that he is not running a Fall marathon was because he was unable to get healthy in time to train properly.
Greg Meyer is the EAC and he and Ritz are buddies. There is a car (for a year) for the first Michigan finisher. It is usually won in about 49:45. That is the goal.

No, if he was capable of running 47:30 right now that does not mean that he would be entered in a Fall Marathon, it means that he "might" be.
47:30 is 4:45 pace for 10 miles. Dathan has run 4:34 pace for 13.1. Which do you think is better? I'd say 11 seconds faster "per mile" for an additional 3.1 miles, that would be 5k.
I've spoken with Greg on more than one occasion in my life and I'm well aware that he is the EAC, also that Dathan and him know each other well (Grand Rapids connection).
Sorry, but I really don't think Dathan is worried about getting a car??? Yes, you are correct that he'll get one being the first Michigan finisher, but I know that he is pretty comfortable in life and a car is not a do or die thing for him.
Yes, I'm also aware that he's not running a fall marathon and is behind in his training schedule, but that has nothing to do with running the Crim or not. Many runners participate in the Crim each August. Some use it as a gauge of their fitness 2+ months out from a marathon, while others "just run it".
Ironically, Greg did that before the 1982 Chicago Marathon, winning in 2:10:59. He ran the Crim that August in 47:57 for 3rd place. He also ran the Crim in 1980 before setting the course record at the Detroit Free Press Marathon that fall (1980).
On the flip side, he ran the Crim without running a fall marathon and did well. He was 47:46 in 1981 and 47:18 in 1985. Greg didn't run a Fall Marathon either year.
Being capable of running 47:30 right now is not the balancing scale to decide if a top runner is going to run a Fall Marathon or not.
Regardless, I appreciate your response but my facts prove that you are only half true...half of the time:)

Incidentally: irony is not coincidence.

What's ironic about that?

No, the reason he's not running a fall marathon is that he's doing one in December. The first Sunday, say.
Is it in Japan?
Yes , Greg was a winner without Kenyans at todays level. His 10mile time would be slow split into days half marathons. Is Crim a watered down americans only affair this year ?
Lets wait and see. I will bet even money that from the Press Truck I will not be able to see Dathan after the Bradley Hills. I will get back with you on Saturday afternoon.
The poster's comment. Read it and maybe you'll understand. You are basically NOT getting my point...which should have been easy to follow by reading the post that I responded to. Thanks for your kindness and agreeing with me.

Thanks, but you also didn't get it. I never mentioned the Kenyans as the point was his time, not who was or wasn't running the race or even the place. Greg Meyer won the Crim once, in 1978 and I wasn't talking about his place, so what are you talking about?

We'll see, but I think my words below will show that I wasn't saying that you would or wouldn't see him at that point.
If you're on the press truck then you should know what I know, if not more. I said 47:30, I didn't say sub 46 or low 46. One can be on the press truck and only see the lead runner(s) depending on which hill.
Dathan could be 40 seconds behind at the Bradley Hills and you might not see him because of the hills and turns, but that doesn't mean that he's still not on sub 48 pace as the leaders could be sub at 46 pace at that point. You have to agree to that.
Herb Lindsay was at least 35-40 seconds ahead of me in the early 80's at that point (Bradley Hills) I assure you that you would not have been able to see me...or barely:)
Disagree or agree, no big deal to me. I know he's not in the best shape of his life, but as my half marathon analysis pointed out, 47:30 is not that big of a stretch for him.
Have fun on the press truck as I am definitely jealous of that and would be happy just to watch the race.
p.s. I know that you said "after" the Bradley Hills, but I'd still be surprised if you didn't see him beyond the Hills. Unless he's jogging it as a fun run, I'd still be surprised if you still couldn't see him on Hawthorne, if not Miller (10k area). Saturday's high is going to be 88 with about 70 at the start. Not the best weather.
He's not breaking 48 minutes, no way Jose'. Dream on.

Sorry, I still say you and the guy who claims to be riding in the lead vehicle are wrong. He'll break 47:30...and my name is not Jose':):):)
