As for Hissan vs. Aregawi, the de-throning of 2014 continues. Asbel Kiprop isn't the fastest 1500m runner, Ezekiel Kemboi is nowhere in the wake of Jairus Birech, and both Rudisha and Aman were beaten by Amos.

Aregawi was Hassaned
Talk about an athlete who came from out of nowhere; I recall seeing her name in a couple of non-DL meets last year and now she is perhaps the best miler in the world. Kind of reminds me of SAFP from 2007 to 2008.
The matchup between the fastest 1500 runner on the year (Sifan Hassan) and fourth fastest (Abeba Aregawi) resulted in victory going to the fastest woman on the year.
Hassan pulled away over the final 100 to win convincingly.
We'll have a full recap up later but Hassan ran much of the race in last place but basically went from last to first from 500 to 400 out and had the lead at the bell.

Probably unlike Aregawi she grew up in Europe and live sin Europe and considers herself European. She arrived as a kid and as a refugee and loves being Dutch where she grew up in her latter childhood.
Aregawi is one of the worst examples of abusing nationality changes. She married her Swedish agent I believe and once she had a Swedish passport moved back to Ethiopia. She refuses to even learn Swedish.

Hassan has a particular tactic in which she follows the field for the first 800, staying on the rail and out of trouble (where Aregawi tends to be near the front but near lane two and getting caught up a bit in the little surges and jostling). Then Hassan makes essentially one big move to the front (though it looks like a series of small moves) so that she hits the bell at the front and holds Aregawi off until the line. By passing the entire field in one swoop, she actually seems to avoid a lot of wasted energy, and she does it so smoothly that it still seems efficient, and she seems ultra confident in her strength in the final lap.

That's how Mary Cain ran in her heat at Worlds in Moscow a year ago, qualifying easily. Then Salazar forced her to run at the front, wasting a lot of her energy in the semi, and then she bombed out in the final from being depleted.

That tactic didn't work (to the other swedish/ethiopian?) in the 5000m. Her acceleration to get to the front at 400m to go was impressive, but she seemed to run out of gas in the last 50m.
That was one helluva race. Double lead changes on the last lap. Aregawi's strategy didn't work well for her. Hassan looks like more than a flash in the pan. This is turning into the blistering rivalry we were hoping Aregawi/Genzebe.
Now if Genze would get in these 1500's that would really be something.

She seperated from her partner of 12 years, an Ethiopian born Swedish national, in early 2014. It has never been a secret that Aregawi trains in Ethiopia during the Swedish winters. She has done so for the past 4 years as she was finding herself being injured training indoors for several months. Still, never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Wtf are you talking about? In her post race interview for the Swedish radio she used an interpreter.
