I'm a junior in high school and today was my xc teams time trials (5k). I ran 18:30 and I felt really good. 1 kid ran 16:30, 2 ran 17:15, 1 ran 17:30, 2 ran 17:45, 2 ran 18:15, and then I'm number 9 with 18:30.
I know the season is just starting but I really would llke to run at states. Obviously only the top 7 run so I'm just missing the mark. My summer training was around 30 mpw (no workouts just hills/strides) in the beginning of the summer and then it was kinda inconsistent where I didn't even run 6 days a week then at the end we started doing 2 tempos a week. So far I've done 3 tempo runs (20 minutes at 6:20-6:10 pace) not killing it but fast. We did the time trial at our home course and it's SO hard. People's times are always a little slower there.
My question is how do I avoid peaking too early in the season? I want my best times to be in mid to late October. Thanks!
