BORED out of my mind. Cannot get excited about anything. Has it ever been this BORING?

I agree and we are already fans of the sport. How does track and field expect to attract new fans?

Exactly. It is fine that it is not likely to attract many new fans, but it is currently beyond BORING...
Unless you're in Europe, Africa and/or The Commonwealth.
You should hold your Pan Am games the same years as the Commonwealth Games, and then have your top tier athletes actually turn up.
Or you could just join the Commonwealth...
Track and Field needs to pick up on IDENTITY! They don't promote the best runners in the world. There appears to be a political stalemate between the IAAF, USA track and field, and sponsorship among athletes as a whole as to how to promote the sport. Athletes in the professional running world are virtually unknown to the rest of us, for the most part.
T&F is somewhat comparable to the Major League Baseball identity crisis. Yes, MLB brings the fans out to the ballpark only because they have games everyday in the summer in BIG cities, which brings the family, kids, ice cream, etc. Yet, very, very, few people if any would be able to identify a Verlander, Braun, Kemp, Kershaw, etc. walking around in a local mall.
And who wants to sit to watch a five-six day track meet and a five hour baseball game? Whew! Please!
Two sports with an identity crises for sure.
P.S. the average fan of a MLB is 50 years old. It's becoming a soon obsolete sport. As anyone done a study on the average Track and Field fan age? By the looks of the USATF officials, it has to be around 60. Scary.
Add "lack of excitement" to that.
Drug testing will do that.
See what you mean. Even a thread about track and field not promoting itself as well as other sports gets turned into a thread about baseball.

The sport is tedious, and particularly this year.

To much time between the Diamond league meets!
