Hello, I've regged for a fall marathon with hopes of running under 3 hrs. I have PRs of 15:35 (5k), 31:48 (10k), and I think 1:12 or 1:11 for 1/2 but this was 5+ years ago. While I've run a bit between college and just after college when those times were run, I've only recently run a 5k in 18:11 after about 6 weeks of easy running and peaked at about 40 miles/week with nothing fast other than some strides.
I ended up taking about a month off due to some real life distractions but have come back and been running for a bit over a week and don't feel like I've lost a ton of fitness (obviously not too fit to begin with). Last week I ran about 30 miles and I'm hoping to be a bit under 40 this week. I'm thinking I can max out between 60-70 miles/week. I'm looking for some advice with how frequently I can run 90 mins+ and whether I should be running faster than normal at any point in these runs. Right now most of my runs start out around 8 mins for first mile or so and i'm down around 7:15-7:30 by the end for most of them. How frequently should I be trying put in a harder effort than my normal training runs or should I try to race any 5ks/10ks in the next few weeks? Should I be running doubles? etc...
I know I'm not close to the fitness I was in college/post collegiate but I really want to get a good effort in for this marathon and be ready to run much faster in the Spring. Any advice is appreciated and I thank you in advance. I'll continue to update my progress over the weeks leading up if people are interested.
