Anybody want to calculate the mileage? I'm too lazy to.

Best high school XC runner ever (I don't give a shit about age cheat LV).

LV was not an age cheat. He only did 3 years of HS because when he started he was a year older, never was a junior, technically
Don't forget about the coach prescribed Sudafed to speed recovery form crazy workouts
32x400m in 66 in high school with 400m jog rest... WTF? That's 8 miles of work at 4:24 pace, not to mention that this was something like a 28 mile day. I repeat, WTF?
Do you realize that he ran 13:44 in HS and 13:27 as a college freshman? 13:44 is 12 laps with no break at ... wait for it ... 66 a lap.
I get 101 mpw for the HS sample week. I think the workouts they were doing were strange (in some cases) and too long (in some cases) ... but 100 mpw on doubles for a guy who was National 2-mile champ as a sophomore and a 4:14/9:00 guy as a sophomore is not too much ... that part was normal.
It is not "the same" but the high-intensity workout every afternoon reminds me of the old York examples (20x200m, 20x400m, 10x800m on consecutive afternoons).
I think DR has it pegged in that only a 17-18 yo capable of 8:40 could do this kind of schedule. The other thing that gets in the way is college, social life and being an adult. I don't think it is the ideal way to train no matter what. He was one of the greatest in spite of this, not because of it.
Notice how Wetmore concentrates it all into ONE long workout. Strange schedule for an athlete who had been running at the top level for 6 years by then (and running for 8-9). I don't think that is ideal either. If he still advises his runners to train like this, they are also achieving in spite of it, not because of it.

Dathan is still the best HS XC runner ever though, I agree
that's pretty intense. I think the 3 best types of training programs (depending on the athlete) are:
1) Tuesday speed, Friday strength(long repeats or tempo), Long run Saturday or Sunday depending on whether or not you take a rest day
2) Tuesday speed, Thursday long, Saturday race or fartlek(what Mutai does)
3) Monday speed, Wednesday threshold, Friday race or workout (more for HSers)
