My son is starting his first year of middle school XC. He runs road 5K races in 20:xx. I had told him don't worry about spikes; just plan to run in his regular running shoes.
However, at the coach-parents meeting yesterday, we were informed that spikes will be required because the championship is at end of October when it frequently rains. The course for all our meets will be grass but by the end of the year, it will frequently be dirt/mud in a lot of places due to all the runners. Distances will vary 3K-5K.
I'm looking for ideas. His mechanics aren't the best so I doubt the high end spikes are good. I see Saucony Kilkenny and Nike Zoom Rival advertise as entry-level spikes. I assume because of fewer spikes and more cushioning?
Any recs, guys?
