I think STEM fields are great, but unless you are planning to become a surgeon, expect to be a bit frustrated in your professional life.
If you want to make a lot of money and retire young, go for a business degree outside of counting beans.
Lots of STEM degrees - even advanced degrees - pay very well coming right out of college, but offer little in the form of advancement.
In business, the sky is the limit.
I was a chemical engineer and went back for an MBA after working for three years and watching the marketing and management guys shoot up the ladder. I went back to work in marketing for a chemical company and love what I do. I also like to surprise the engineers from time to time with questions no marketers would ever ask :)
