What are the best exercises for developing well defined abs?
For guys any exercise that gets you to less than 5% body fat, girls 8-15%. I also like chin ups & hanging abs with a 35 lbs med ball.

To actually give you a serious answer, any ab workout that is more dynamic in nature. Bicycle crunches, weighted twists, leg raises, captains chairs, pendulums, etc. Planks are more for endurance. If you're really looking for size, do things like weighted crunches. Adding weight will promote muscle growth more so than doing 50 un weighted crunches.

You want to do two things: Make the muscles larger and reduce the amount of fat that covers them up. For #1 I wanted hypertrophy so I would do weighted crunches, 3 sets of 100, 4x week. I also ate a lot of protein and cut down on my fat intake. I reduced processed carbs and stuck with fruit, veggies, beans as my carbs. If it came in a bag or a box I wouldn't eat it. I stuck with this for 3 months and my ab definition popped right out. It was really noticeable - I got lots of comments. I am just telling you this from personal experience; I'm not a trainer or anything but this worked very well for me.

Don't forget ab exercises which aren't ab specific such as squats, running and swimming. When running try to push your hips as far forward as possible.
