Would it be possible to shave off 20-30 secs in a 5k, by labor day weekend?

Assuming that you're a 13 flat guy like most posters here, I think it will be difficult.
Hell no.. I'm shootin for sub 18.. I'm an old man too fyi.
Your question is so lacking in essential details that you might well not have bother asking.
Ok not sure what you're looking for.. Lets see i'll try to give you some insight.. I'm normally a 18:20-18:40 guy. Would love to cross this sub 18 barrier i've been stuck at for the last 2 yrs now.
Anyways, I usually run 40-50 mpw more 50's lately cuz i'm training for my first marathon as well. I do an easy run, a tempo run, a rolling hills run, 1 speed session consisting of 3x1600 or 6x800, and a long run..
This is a very moderate course but I know it's certified, and it's the course i'm going to be running the race on in Sep. I want sub 18 bad!
So during my time trial I went out in 5:40, mile 2 is where the hills start but I hit mile 2 in 11:30, more rolling hills in mile 3 thought I was gonna be able to do one more surge but didn't have it. The course is closer to 3.2 then 3.1 not making excuses , jus sayin.
How close, if at all am I?
If you can trial 2 miles @ 545, how have you not broken 18???? You left out your third mile , which means you could have TT 2 miles faster than 11:30. I'm just really surprised why you aren't asking if you can break 17:30.
Maybe your mentally blocking yourself from going sub 18 because of the last two years being stagnant??? Sack up, dig deep in the middle and finish hard, I think you'll surprise yourself.
Yea I think I have this huge mental block when I hit that 2.5 mile marker. I get to thinking how tired I am how I aint gonna make it haha. I know if I hit that 2 mile marker around 11:30 that there is no way I can hit another 5:47. Like ya said all in my head though i'm guessing..
I have ran 17:59 on a course thats wasn't certified this yr was like 3.04.
Just need to find a way to stay on pace that last mile.. Or in that neighborhood , and finish hard!
