Don't get me wrong I am a believer of Rudisha and his 800m WR. It's often discussed as possibly being TnF's strongest record. This would be over openly PED-fueled events such as the 7:20 3k, 3:26 1500m, and 12:37 5k. Thoughts?

it's not strongest wr
1'40.91 = 3'26.21
3'26.00 = 1'40.81
the 1500 wr is better number ( albeit not solo effort )
for 3k, nearest line i have to 7'20.67 is
7'20.46 = 1'41.56 = 3'27.43 = 12'39.00 = 26'14.57
for 5k, nearest line i have to 12'37.35 is
12'37.00 = 1'41.24 = 3'26.83 = 7'19.26 = 26'10.57

Are you serious??? Strongest records are the javelin, long jump, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash... all effectively un-breakable in the horizon.
Jan Zelenzy's WR is 6% better than the second best person in the javelin. That's a far bigger outlier than Paula Radcliffe's marathon record.

It's NEVER been considered the strongest record and I've never seen any evidence of that
It's maybe the least-improved record since the 80's. Seb Coe was within 1% of it.

"Openly PED-fueled"? Please. Source?

When someone implies that something is self-evident, asking for proof doesn't counter them one bit. Just say "no, it's not self-evident."
Hate to break this to you but...The field events have a talent pool that is a tiny, tiny fraction of that which competes, and aspires for greatness in middle distance and distance events.

Sure, but then that is why the 100/200 are without a doubt the strongest records.
Thanks for the website link. Lots of good information. Based only on experience and not time statistics I think the 1500m, 3K, and 5K are slightly better records.

I'm assuming we're just going to ignore Komen's 7:58.61.

Anything by Komen or KB should be ignored, as doped as they were, especially Komen.

What is the proof, or even vague evidence that Bekele doped?

MMMkay nice argument and proof we have here.

divide by 1.08 for a 3k

there is too much uneven pace to optimise time
hicham was too slow to bell in 2'32.8 & worth 3'25-mid if reached in 2'31+
smilarly komen shouda gone 7'19-flat if rested & no suicidal 57.8 opener
komen's peak was actually a brief coupla weeks in '98 indoor season when he was capable of maybe
7'17
12'32/12'33
http://tinyurl.com/k86fmojThanks for this info. I'll go with the 3K as the best record. As you say as fast as Komen was he may have had a few more seconds to drop from his 3K had he not gone out in 57.8. Sub 60 seconds pace for 7.5 laps is incredible.
