Heathers is one of my favorite movies, probably in my top-25 all time. The movie itself is also lauded by critics--95% on Rotten Tomatoes. Anyone who's seen the movie knows a key plot point is JD's desire and attempt to blow up the school, killing everyone. The movie is a pretty dark comedy.
I have been wondering recently what the reaction would be if Heathers came out in 2014 rather than 1988. School shootings and such are not a laughing matter, obviously. So if a comedy came out in 2014 with a major plot point being that a character wants to blow up his school, how would the public react? How would critics react? Would the movie be lambasted, or would it be respected if it is actually a good movie?
