I ran for depaul a couple years ago, and still keep in touch with some of the seniors from this past year. if you are referring to how they did this past fall, I do know that their entire team from last year that was returning was all injured and/or quit. So the entire line up for the season was mid distance runners and freshmen (many of which were hurt in the summer).
The team has never been great, but we did typically have a team that averaged under 25:30. While I was there we had a kid run 8K in 23:37. The team was always injury plagued but we had a lot of talent.
The statements about them being lazy is completely wrong. The team they have right now, I know first hand is working really hard. They are bringing back my friend Eddie for a 5th year. He ran mid 24's his junior season. I also know that the freshman Alex who ran mid 25s this year did that off of no summer training.
When I saw some of them in early june they told me they had a 4:10 miler coming in, and a few low 9:20 2 milers. If they stay healthy I wouldnt doubt them surprising people.
In regards to the coaches - you are right, the head coach is a sprinter. He took over as head coach a few years ago and has been building the track team piece by piece. The throwers and sprinters are best in the Big East by a wide margin. Theres no doubt he'll be trying to build cross country next. They let one of their assistant coaches go this summer. I dont know who will be replacing him, but id imagine somebody will be hired soon.
I just wanted to clarify this up, as I took it a little personal because I ran at Depaul.
