Best ever running documentary/film. Showed Rudisha's first training session, first pair of spikes, first plane ride, first 800 race. 16 years old, 1:50! Colm o'Connell & David have a beautiful relationship. Hope everyone outside the UK gets a chance to see it.
Superb. Amazing footage of his very start in athletics.

Agreed! He ran his first 800m race on a dirt track in 1.50 and brother colm's first comment is "even the flies are getting excited". Rudisha comes across as a really likeable guy, no bs about him. Your feet better be the right size around here, not the spikes.
Fans and skeptics alike need to watch this. AMAZING.
I watched it with a friend, she's never even heard of Rudisha and has no interest in Athletics, or sports for that matter and she thought it was fantastic.
Rudisha is so down to earth, I really hope he wins the commonwealth games title.
He still needs to work on his last 100m to stand a chance of winning against Amos. Also, totally ignored in that Monaco result was a massive PB for Ferguson Cheruiyot who'll probably medal.
nijel is in
1'41-low/mid
Rudy isn't beating that
Asbel did beat nijel off lotta extra on bends
implication ?
similar shape at worst
nijel is 2nd fastest 800 guy at meet
unfortunately running 1500 is a
solo
1'41-mid
Rudisha is the boss. When it matters he will deliver. Mark my words.

I think I see Coach Canova on the track around 29min into the vid!

The one kinda yelling at his athletes? I thought the same thing. I believe Brother Colm made a comment about different coaching styles.
Catching Rudisha's first ever 800 on film was incredible. I wonder if they did this specifically for Rudisha or was it mere coincidence that he showed up at the same time they were filming.
With all of the success the Brother Colm has had, did anyone else wonder why he doesn't have some money flowing into his camp? Why hasn't a shoe company sponsored him? Why no updated equipment, housing etc...? I'm not saying this would improve his results, I am just surprised someone hasn't stepped forward with money. Maybe he would turn it down since he is doing missionary work.
If you have not seen the film, do yourself a favor and watch it.

Oh, boy! In full 480P!
Guys just watch it on BBC with Hola.
Truly a great documentary. Very well put together and thoughtful, too.
I'm simply amazed that they just happened to have SO MUCH video from Rudisha's youth! They just happened to capture when he got his first pair of spikes, when he ran his first 800m...HOW DID THEY KNOW!? SO cool.
They were likely doing a doc on Colm and he tipped them off due to his father's name and achievements (plus probably some initial promise in training).
As I recall, Rudisha at first was a decathlete, but struggled with the PV. Ran that 800 off deca training.
Thanks!

No, Rudisha was originally a long sprinter. Primary focus was the 400.
K, looked it up:http://trackandfield.about.com/od/middledistance/p/David-Rudisha-World-Record-Holder-At-800-Meters.htm"Evolving Career:Rudisha began competing seriously, in the decathlon, in 2004. Following in his father’s footsteps, he switched the 400 the next year, while attending secondary school at St. Patrick’s Iten. His coach at St. Patrick’s, Colm O’Connell, then suggested Rudisha try the 800. O’Connell has been Rudisha’s coach ever since."

That does not match up with what happens in the documentary. He shows up to St Patrick's as 400 guy and Brother Colm has him try out the 800. It never mentions him doing a decathlon. It's possible this was edited out to keep the film under an hour I guess.

I was looking to download and keep it since my iPlayer HD download has DRM and expires in 4 days but can't be bothered anymore. Don't know why but they've clipped about three and half minutes of mostly London 2012 footage which, for me, was the emotional climax and highlight of the doc off of that YouTube version.
Basically the actual 100 seconds (with commentary turned off but stadium announcer and crowd audible) is what's missing from the video linked. If you haven't seen it yet, skip that and wait for the full version.
