Do they try to convince athletes who suck that they don't suck? If thats the case, thats implying that most athlets cab be great if they have the right mentality, which is false. At the top level its GENETICS that seperate 1st place from 10th place.
The only time I can see a sports psychologist being of help is with athletes like Jordan Hasay, people who have the talent but for some reason do not believe in themselves or they do not have the right mentality for the sport. Watching the womens 10k at nationals, I have seen Jordan close WAY faster than what she did there. And she gave up the inside line with out even fighting for it, like she doesnt even want to win. People criticize Shannon for "weaving" in and out but at least she fought to hold Molly off, Jordan just gave up.
