This coming weekend I have the choice of a evil 9 mile trail run that rips your lungs out at times or a hot, fast; flat 5k. Which would you pick and why??

5K.
My reasons are my own
5K, because I like racing the 5K fast more than I like racing a weird 9 mile race on trippy trails.

I bet you would run 13:55 in trainers
Trail running is deservedly cool. But it's hard to race them with a sense of abandon. One is always a root or divot away from an ACL repair. So, the 5 if you want to race, the trail if you want a scenic workout.
Okay let's add more to the scenario. There are 5k's every weekend in my area I could probably go and run my normal time and possibly place in my age group. But if I go to the trail run the local guys who specialize in trail running will give me a good reality check (:
"But it's hard to race them with a sense of abandon" Not really bro I just go out and push with kamikaze attitude.
