Shit man, if elijah keeps improving by .13 per year, He will have a 1:44.00 pr by the time he's 30 #hurryup #ontherighttrackregardless
Congrats to Greer on breaking 1:45 for the first time. I hope he can improve on his socially awkward behavior. Many people think he is a douche because of the way he acts. I am not so sure, and will give him the benefit of the doubt.
Greer is from that 1991 year that included Loxsom and Andrews. At WJrs in 2010 (Moncton) Loxsom and Andrews both earned medals - Bosse was 8th (a 1992). Greer didn't make the team, or did he even try out?
Since then Andrews has become very inconsistent (even with a NCAA title) and Loxsom hasn't made the progression I thought he might. Alex Rowe (Aussie 1992, coached by JRinaldi) has gone beyond them, let alone Bosse. Of course getting into a European (and not just US) DL helps.
Greer, Andrews and Loxsom are young enough to make big inroads on the international scene, but with equally young guys (or younger) like Aman, Amos and Kitum already there it won't be easy. Personally I wonder if the NCAA structure has held these guys back a bit - even if Andrews left early - as Bosse and Rowe have been able to focus on getting better, not on scoring points for their College team, even if in Greer's case this meant team championships.
I guess we will see if McBride moves to that level in the next year or so or whether he stagnates a bit as a 1.45 guy. He is doing Commonwealth Games I understand, so gets to run against Rudisha and Kitum (are they both running?). Maybe the advantage he has in competing for Canada is that he can prepare for bigger meets without having to peak for National trials races, and Miss St is not in any danger of competing for team titles.
Jeremy Wariner should be taking notes.
Looks like there are gonna be haters everywhere... But I'm glad to see a good first year with Rowland and the training paying off.
Yet to make a real jump in performance, but on the flip side, consistent runner usually always in the mix.
Greer is from the 1990 year. Although he's only a few months older than Loxsom, Greer was past Juniors age in 2010. Greer ran in the 2008 World Juniors at the end of his high school junior year. I'm not sure where Andrews and Loxsom were racing at the end of their high school junior year as they went to WJrs at the end of their college freshman year. Greer wasn't able to get past Kaki or Kszczot in his Wjrs semifinal, while Andrews and Loxom medalled at WJrs. But Greer is the only one of the three to have a USATF Junior Championship and a NCAA Championship, bagging the highest level national championships as a high schooler and a collegian. He's clearly running better than anyone else in head-to-head 800s for the US in 2014 except for Solomon. No reason to think he won't make a big performance breakthrough with another year with Rowland under his belt and eventually earn national championships at the professional level as well.
