She is fine with her career at ND but acknowledges that with pre-med academics she may not have achieved all she could have had running been her only concern.

So had she gone to Columbia,Mich,Prov.et al. it would have been the same results.

In my opinion she would have been over raced, maybe not quite the triple of say and AJ at Oregon, but it's a thin line between performing/ developing/ and achieving a super high level. All day long I would rather am athlete like her, peaking later than soph year in college and never seeing even the fumes of their previous selves at 19.

Notre Dame has the 2011 footlocker champ Molly Seidel and they have done NOTHING with her. I looked her up recently and she is running about 10 seconds slower in the mile than she did in hs

Has she been injured? I know she didn't run a lot in high school, but was obviously extremely talented. Maybe just adjusting to college level training?

They also turned Rebecca Tracy into a 4:33 miler and Alexa Aragon into a sub 10 steeplechaser, so I wouldn't say the problem is program-wide like you see at other places such as Duke.

When you are a school like Notre Dame, you are going to get very high level recruits. Because of that, they are going to be under great scrutiny about how much their recruits improve. If a 5:10 miler goes to a smaller D1 school and doesn't improve, it will mostly go unnoticed. If a Molly Seidel doesn't improve or gets worse, it will be highly noticed. It comes with the territory. No school is going to get every runner to improve and Notre Dame is no exception. Notre Dame has had many, many high level recruits not develop or get worse, but they have had their fair of success as well, as you pointed out in your quote. Molly is only two years into college and she may still end up having a great career when all is said and done.

Maximus has some good points, on both sides of this issue.

ND doesn't look like a bad program overall, but they sure do seem to have a mixed record, especially with the womens team.

Anyone on here with any insight into the program or the coaching?

Why pretty much nothing from FLN champ in two years?

And hard to give credit for MH. She was a super stud when she got there, and her real development has been since she left.
