I think at some point Centro, if his stated goal is true, needs to stick his nose in these races earlier and see how long he can hang on. Might surprise himself.
Leo w a PR, Awesome.

As long as they keep PRing, they're moving forward, they're fine. At some point they'll need to go out harder to break their PRs, but until then they should whatever they have to do to run fast.

Right, because a 400 post thread without a single piece of evidence OBVIOUSLY confirmed that Centrowitz was drugged.
Seriously. If you're going to make drug accusations at least have a SINGLE piece of concrete evidence that may suggest it (And no, Wheating tweeting "#TeamLeo" is NOT evidence).
For example, some people may reasonably think Lagat is drugged, considering he did have a Positive A sample. And some people may legitimately claim Gatlin is drugged, since he tested positive and was banned, and is now running times very close to those that he ran the year he tested positive.
When Centro ACTUALLY fails an A Sample, or several members of the NOP are ACTUALLY caught with drugs, you can start making the claims with credibility. Until then, no claim that Centro is drugged is remotely reasonable.
They both were just towed to their lifetime personal bests.

A Duck,
Centro is plenty competitive.
He just ran a PR. He was way ahead of Leo with even 200 to go and was mid-pack for most of the race. Do I want him to go even faster? No.
He tried that earlier in the year somwhere - what race was that? - and blew up.
It's pretty amazing to think Leo ran 3:30 as he was holding on for dear life the whole race. I'm sure it helped to see centro's scalp up there with 200 to go.
But do you realize how fast these guys are running?
I bet not since it's a 1500 not mile. We'll have more on that in our WTW but along the lines of BRING BACK THE MILE please realize that Manzano just ran 3:47.86 mile and Centro a 3:47.98.
You're made that they are 1.5 seconds from contention at the bell???
I understand what you are saying but I'd rather see Centro run 3:47 int he mile than go out on 3:42 pace and blow up and run 3:55.
Centro stuck his nose in the Oslo mile with a lap to go and faded.
He's having a good year. Let's see how it keeps going.
In a race like we just had, it's about time. Doesn't matter if those guys are in front or middle of the pack. The goal in that kind of race is simply to run as fast as possible. Where the competition places is out of their control and should not be a factor other than using the competition to help them psychologically to run as fast as possible. In championship races it's all about place. Who cares about time. Guys with 3:32 PRs often snag a medal while guys who've run 3:30 multiple times end up 6th or not making the final at all (like Daniel K. Komen several times).
Neither is necessarily better than the other. Of course medals are more meaningful, but in a race like Saturday's, it's all about time, and 3:30 is pretty damn impressive and exciting regardless of anything else.

No, they didn't rojo.
not sure how long centro can improve this year. it's possible he rushed back after that indoor-long illness, and might not have the base to carry him through end of summer. as for leo, this year seems to be a revival of sorts (although he IS the silver medalist). I look forward to them moving forward. If Salazar is taking the steady approach with Centro then the young man has a lot of room for improvement. regardless, centro has shown that he can whip into shape quickly, injured and/or ill. breaking 3:30 would be absolutely incredible for either of them. If willis can do it, why can't they? that said, I think centro will be the one to do it when all is said and done

I'm a lot more comfortable converting a mile time to a 1500m than I am supposing what pace that extra 109.xm can be covered by a runner who PRed over the first 1500m.
I'm thinking about his next steps.
Pretty soon now, in his evolution he's gonna stick his nose in it and see how it goes. As you point out he's still improving.
