Hi, I'm a 15 year old sophmore wondering if I should train for the 2015 season . I can run a low 49 sec 400 a 10.9 100 and a 4:04 1500 and I've went 21'9 in the long jump. But the other six events I'm unsure off. I think I have good muscle mass to so the throwing events mediocre considering I can bench 220 at 160 pounds but the high jump pole vault and hurdles I draw a blank on. Would it be worth it?
Work the hurdles regularly. They're not as natural as good hurdlers make them look.
Begin learning the vault.
I would suggest starting the throwing events with lighter implements to learn the technique but until the tech is solid that you not worry about competing.
The decathlon is a long process to build up. Work regularly and systematically but don't worry about competing in the dec for a while.
There is an old saying, "If you have to ask, then you wouldn't make a good decathlete."
Hmm, well I am finding it hard to believe you are a 15 year old who can run a 10.9 and a 4:04 1500, to be honest. Especially when you throw in your long jump as supposed bench press.
But assuming those are true, then you are at the level of an elite decathlete in the 100, 400, 1500, and almost in the long jump.
To put it into perspective, you would be in the middle of the pack at the US olympic trials in the 100 and 400, be not the worst in the long jump, and usually be the fastest in the 1500. The 1500 is what makes it hard for me to believe in combination with the other marks.
Which is why I doubt you are telling your real PRs, because they are just a little too good to be true. At the same time, there have been guys close to that at your age, so maybe it is true. One example would be David Klech. He went on to be a bit of a flameout in the decathlon, but that isn't really the point.
The point is that if these marks are legit, find a pole vault club in your area and a hurdle coach and start working on those two events. Those two will be the most telling if the decathlon is for you. HJ and the throws will fall in line if you show potential in those two skill events.
Sorry meant to put 16: but I assure you those are my real pr's I specialize in the 400 & 800 but I've done the 1500 twice and ran 4:05 4:07 and I've ran 4:20 4:22 4:19 in the 1600

Are you sure those are your times? If you forgot how old you are, maybe you forgot your PRs.
Let us know when you do a decathlon because you will likely set the world record for a decathlon 1500m before you get out of high school.
Wouldn't it be better to ask all the college coaches recruiting you rather than this board?
