This guy Guor Maker, formerly Guor Marial, formerly Guor Majak, has a hell of a story. He's the guy from Sudan who, thanks to how messed up his nation of origin is, was allowed to compete in the London Olympic Marathon as an independant athlete.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guor_Marial
His DOB is listed as 4/15/2004, as it is on the IAAF site. If I am not mistaken, that means he turned 21 on April 15, 2005.
Now look at this:
http://www.concordmonitor.com/article/concord-high-senior-wins-national-title
"As a 19-year-old, Majak would have been ineligible to compete this year for Concord High, but he was given two more seasons (cross country and indoor track) because of his extenuating circumstances. Yesterday, in his final race for Concord High, his adopted homeland crowned him its high school national champion."
This information is incorrect, although I'm sure the reporter was only writing what he was told. Majak stopped being 19 on April 15, 2004, in the early spring of his junior year. In theory, he stopped being eligible for high-school races at that point, right? I don't know about New Hampshire but I'm pretty sure that's the general rule. He was THREE full years older than a typical kid in his grade.
But, he went on racing against high-school kids, and after a crappy junior year in track, he won a state title in cross country as a senior at age 20 (http://www.lancertiming.com/results/fall04/moc-b.htm) and another one in the 3,000 indoors (http://www.lancertiming.com/results/winter05/classlb.htm). He does not show up in the N.H. state outdoor results because by then he was apparently believed to have gone from 19 to 20 years old, but as it happens, he went from being 20 to being 21.
I know I probably sound like a dick because yeah, he was a Lost Boy like Lomong etc., but I didn't exactly go on a focused hunt for this. I saw from the Letsrun front page that Maker is now an American, and recalled his story, and noticed the dates, and, well...
Anyway, there it is. It's confirmed. Someone who remains on the books as a national 2-mile high-school champion is now known to have been within five weeks of being able to legally purchase alcohol in the U.S. at the time of his win.
This really just isn't fair to the KIDS he ran against.
