I live in South Jersey and have raced in Atlantic City before with either the 1/2 marathon or a 10-mile race in the spring (never did the marathon there). Unless the course has changed, it is boring; just going back and forth on the Boardwalk or side roads. Ocean winds can also suck the energy out of you. I find that any race there over 5k to be somewhat tedious.
What kind of time are you looking to run?
around 2:40
I've run the City of Oaks before and the only problem I had with it was that there was no aide station from about mile 18 to 23 as you run through Umstead Park. I missed getting water at the last station because of the doofus kids staffing it. About halfway throught he park I decided I couldn't wait and took my apple cinamon hammer gel without any water to wash it down. I don't recommend doing that.
Otherwise the race was nice, and pretty flat with the exception of Umstead.

I remember when men could race marathons without apple cinnamon hammer gels. Ah... the days.

Well in hindsight I wish I would have just ditched it. It was my first marathon and somebody handed it to me. I'm faster and less stupid now if that makes you feel better.

I've got an athlete doing City of Oaks this year (should be around 2:50) and we looked at some Atlantic City and as another poster alluded to the Ocean winds can be pretty unpredictable so we opted not to do that race.
