Any decent HS programs around Saint Louis area?

I will be a freshman at a college in the St. Louis, MO area this fall. Unfortunately I am not good enough to make my school's varsity team, but I would still like to be involved with the sport in some way. The best idea I have thought of is to hop on as an assistant coach for a local high school program, however according to state law in Missouri, I need to have at least 60 college credit hours before I can accept even a part-time/volunteer coaching position (correct if this is wrong, but it's the memo I got). Due to this, I was wondering if anybody knew of any decent HS programs in Illinois (state doesn't have any restrictions to my knowledge), that aren't too far a drive from St. Louis. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

^^^ Ha! I would bet $1,000 that there is not a single "rich white preppy" student at East St. Louis HS.

O'Fallon would be the obvious choice... arguably the #6 program over the last 10 years in Illinois (All-Classes behind only York, Palatine, Neuqua Valley, Naperville North, and Lyons Township - and just ahead of other good programs like St. Charles North and Prospect), but has been a rising program that has finished Top 5 each of the last 4 years.

why not look for a program that needs your help rather than going to a good program like O'Fallon where you will be just a cheerleader. There are plenty that could use your help.

also pretty sure even volunteer coaches must have ACEP certification and pass a background check.

It seems hard to believe that you would need any college credits to be a volunteer coach at a HS. Talk to the coach at your future college for ideas. If you can't walk-on the team there (or you really want to get into coaching now vs. later), they might be able to have you be a volunteer manager. They could also direct you to coaches at local high schools to contact. You should also consider helping at a school with a good/experienced/knowledgeable coach at a school in a good neighborhood (E. St. Louis has a bad rep) that is easy to commute to from your college or where you will be living. There are many good private high schools in the area.
